Pastel Africa is a venture-backed, Silicon Valley, and Lagos-based startup digitizing small businesses across Africa. They are building digital tools to address the pain points of small businesses across Africa, starting from Nigeria.

There are over 450 million small businesses across Africa, with 40 million in Nigeria alone. Even though small businesses make up the bulk of the continent’s economy, they are extremely underserved, with pain points ranging from manual and inefficient processes to a lack of access to capital.

Since launching in September 2021, they have built multiple mobile-based apps to help over 120k small businesses manage their bookkeeping, generate invoices and provide receipts. The next step along their journey is to provide financial services to these businesses.

Their team believes in product-led growth and is dedicated to providing the best platform for small businesses across Africa to manage their day-to-day activities.

About The Role

They are looking to hire an Offline Marketing Manager to join their marketing team. The role requires you to actively take their products directly to users, do market research, share feedback and ensure that their products attain market success.

What do you need to be considered successful?

Their team is big on data-driven solutions and customer feedback and research. You will be working directly with the marketing and product teams. You will help them build and maintain a strong and consistent brand through a range of offline marketing channels. You will also be responsible for the following:

  • Recruit and Build a team of offline agents to be boots on the ground to onboard users on Pastel’s Products.

  • Take offline marketing team to Markets and Communities on a daily basis to create awareness and onboard users.

  • Strategise and organise Experiential activities in Markets and Communities to gain trust and develop relationship between Pastel and its target audience (Mostly SMEs and Individuals).

  • Create an Incentive Scheme ( Giveaways, Bonanza or Raffle) to create awareness, encourage participation and put Pastel’s Products as top of mind.

  • Create a user feedback report mechanism to get proper and timely insights on user’s perception about Pastel’s Product.

  • Must meet up with weekly and monthly deliverables as required by the Product and Marketing Leads

You will be a direct link between products and users to help us improve the lives of millions of small business owners and individuals in Nigeria. Pastel is looking for an individual with a background and skills in traditional (offline) marketing and passionate about providing solutions to the pain point for small businesses in developing countries.

Biggest Problem-Solving duties on The Job

Your role will involve recruiting and building a team of offline marketing agents who will serve as boots on ground for Pastel’s products, it will require you being on the ground in markets and communities, introducing and testing our products with users, onboarding users on our products and gathering feedback on how we can improve our product offerings.

What you need to have done in your Career

  • 5+ years of experience as a Marketing lead especially in Traditional and Experiential marketing.

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

  • Great knowledge of markets and good relationships with stakeholders.

  • Excellent leadership skill

  • Excellent team player

  • Good communication and strategic thinking skills

  • Must be proactive and good at taking initiative.

  • Must have a sense of ownership.

  • Ability to work independently and give timely reports and feedback

  • Demonstrated success in marketing products in developing countries, particularly in Africa.

  • Willingness to go to Markets and communities in Person

  • Strong communication and organisation skills

Preferred Qualifications;

  • Experience in Market Activations .

  • Experience in Experiential Activations.
