THE BIG IDEA

This Boss Might Be Forcing His EA To Upskill…

Have you heard the phrase “Upskill or die!” thrown around in corporate settings lately?

Of course, these are truly heavy words but is there any truth to it?

Recently, in a group chat for professional women, there was a heated discussion about an Executive Assistant to a high ranking professional who was asked to learn how to use a software program, AutoCAD, in just three months.

A huge percentage of the ladies went beserk.

Oh… you should have read the comments! Many of them were upset about this request because it seemed unreasonable and not relevant to her current job as an Executive Assistant.

Fair enough.

However, I think there are two ways to approach this situation.

She could decide, “Oh! Let me try my hands at it as it could be useful in the future”.

Ooor feel overwhelmed and start planning an exit strategy!

As a growth marketing professional, I knew something had to give when I realized I could be doing something more technical and fulfilling within the marketing industry – I wish my boss had pushed me to learn new skills like the EA’s did, at least the company might pay for it. LOL!

By the way, Forbes had something important to say on the subject so you might want to take a quick look.

Now I’m passing the mic to you.. what would you do in the EA’s shoes? Would you try to learn the software or start writing your resignation letter?
