Hello, Buddy!

Anyhoo, in the absence of gossip from my workplace, this period reminds me of a personal story I’d like to share with you. And I’d start with this meme:

You at therapy, thirty minutes into a new toxic job:

In a few weeks, I would have spent a year at CareerBuddy, and April reminds me of how I set out last year looking for a new role.

As a creative, there were quite a number of opportunities I could hop on, but it wasn’t just about getting any opportunity; it was also about finding THE RIGHT ONE. The kind of writing I would be tasked with, the style and culture, the challenges I’d have to face, the audience I would be creating for, and the people I’d be working with all mattered.

Having those in mind made it easy to filter my search and know where to pitch and what offer to accept. And here I am at a job that aligns with what I need and whose challenges I can handle.

Let’s be frank; many of us do not take our time to consider the environment, the kind of work we will be doing, the audience/customers we will be relating with, or the challenges of the job before we apply. We are all about the size of the paycheck –which isn’t bad at all.

And I understand that the climate we are in makes us just want to get our foot in the door and have a job, at least –especially for fresh job seekers. But getting a job is one thing, thriving in a job is a different game.

So ask yourself, do you just want a job or do you want a job where you can thrive?

In your job search henceforth, you might want to consider these:

  1. What is in it for you? Yes, the paycheck is a valid consideration and could still be your priority

  2. Will you thrive? Every job will present you with difficulties, but is it one you are willing to embrace?

  3. Yes, you may not know everything about a team before you join, and that’s okay. If you get in and the grass is dead brown, get a thriving strategy, or leave! (Yes leave, if you’d be miserable or if you’d be a menace to the company’s growth and productivity)

Think about this so you don’t end up like this babe.

So, quick question: You’ve been out of jobs for a long time and now Sapa is courting you. Eventually, you get an offer, but the culture and environment are giving premium red flags, are you taking it?

Tell me, I won’t snitch
