Fincra

Top Solution to Seamless Payment Experience

If you’re subscribed to notable tech-driven newsletters, Fincra would not be a new name to you; its headline banner stares you in the face right from the top. But even if you’re not, the payment infrastructure system has accrued for itself a household name within the tech community. Operating from Toronto, Canada, and Lagos, Nigeria, Fincra allows merchants to send and receive local and international payments and build financial apps seamlessly.

While there are tons of articles that tell you all you need to know about Fincra’s structure and optimal services, CareerBuddy had a brief chat with Ikenna Chijioke-Osueze , Head of Design at Fincra to take a tour from an insider’s point of view.

The team is called the Fincra Tribe and they make work happy- Ikenna Chijioke-Osueze, Head of Design, Fincra

“We work remotely, and a typical workday for me starts with checking through the portal to identify areas of UX debts and ways we can improve our users’ experience significantly, clearing out gaps where we have missed out on giving users the best experience.

It’s a challenge really; being in fintech. I am part of the management team and even when there are issues, I have enough leeway to make things move. But it’s been a smooth ride.

One thing that stands out for me at Fincra is the company culture, we call ourselves the Fincra tribe, and honestly, they make work happy! There’s this thing about when you’re working with someone and you’re confident that everybody will play their role, and that’s a fantastic feeling. You don’t feel trapped because someone else is not getting their own work done. In Fincra, everyone is accountable. Today, I can confidently say there is no mediocre person. In fact, if you are not good, you won’t get in -even as an intern, you won’t get in”

Taking a flashback to his early days at Fincra, Ikenna recounts his hiring process with CareerBuddy and speaks on the recruitment process and what getting into the company meant to his career plans:

“The hiring was pretty seamless; from the initial interview and the technical assessment which was really different from evaluations I have gone through in my career. A lot of recruiters don’t get it right. At my level, you shouldn’t assess me to know if I can design or not, it’s quite silly. Rather, it should be an assessment of my fundamental knowledge and skills around managing a team and not core product design. This is the first recruitment company I have interviewed with that got that process right.

For me, I was looking at being in a fast-paced startup that has gone live but wasn’t fully fleshed out yet. I wanted to come in at an early stage and basically be a part of the company’s growth; actively build products from scratch, the design stage, going live, and reaching customers.

CareerBuddy identified this and got me that access, and Fincra met that expectation”
